Svalbard extreme late Autumn Expedition
Exploring Svalbard autumn light
Late autumn is great for landscape shots when it comes to colors and light. At this time of the year the Arctic is freezing up again and the first snow arrives. You will explore the High Arctic under some of the best lighting conditions and dramatic weather and light we could have on Svalbard.
Our main goal is to sail northeast, exploring some of the fjords up North and if possible sail into northern parts of Hinlopen and some of the fjords there. We will be looking for wildlife and landscapes as it is freezing up again for the winter. The itinerary will depend on the weather and wind. Some of the highlights is to photograph landscapes with northern light in addition. This will be possible this time of the year.
This time of the year we expect new snow and some of the fjords are freezing up. We want to find wildlife on the new ice, as the Polar Bears start to hunt seals again. The landscapes up north will be covered by the new snow.

Itinerary
Svalbard is situated at about 80 degrees north, so we schedule the expedition in accordance with prevailing weather and ice conditions. The map on this page shows the estimated route for this expedition. Even if it normally will be some changes in the planned itinerary this route cover the main areas we plan to visit. In September and October the drift ice edge can be situated 82-83 degrees north and we expect to see polar bears and other wildlife on our journey. The Arctic start to frees up again.
Day 0 We always recommend to arrive Longyearbyen at least one day and night in advance.
Day 1 Departure from Longyearbyen throughout Isfjorden. Heading north to the drifting ice.
Day 2-9 We will explore the coastlines of Svalbard and even visit the drift ice areas in late autimn fantastic light. We do expect new snow covering the landscapes and the fjords and drift ice starting to frees again.
The route illustrated in the map on this page is just a estimate for where we will sail. It probably will be changed depending on the ice conditions. Maybe we have to sail much further to the north to reach the ice.
Day 10 Leaving the ship after breakfast. Arctic Fox excursions begin.
