Svalbard September Expedition
Exploring Kvitøya far east
Late autumn is great for landscape shots when it comes to colors and light. At this time of the year the Arctic is freezing up again and the first snow arrives. You will explore the High Arctic under some of the best lighting conditions and dramatic weather and light we could have on Svalbard.
Our main goal is to sail far northeast, exploring Lågøya, Seven Islands, Storøya and at the end Kvitøy which is rarely visited. We also will explore the drift ice searching for Polar Bears and Bowhead whales.
Our guides and travel leaders know how to handle the constantly changing weather, drifting ice conditions and wildlife on the move, taking advantage of every hour we have of daylight. Dawn and dusk will give us some amazing lighting from the sun disappearing more and more under the horizon.
Join this exclusive small ship charter navigating through the Svalbard wilderness and icy waters of the High Arctic. We focus on photographic opportunities but our expeditions are well suited for anyone interested in wildlife experiences.

Itinerary
Svalbard is situated at about 80 degrees north, so we schedule the expedition in accordance with prevailing weather and ice conditions. The map on this page shows the estimated route for this expedition. Even if it normally will be some changes in the planned itinerary this route cover the main areas we plan to visit. In September the drift ice edge can be situated 82-83 degrees north and we expect to see polar bears and other wildlife on our journey. We also plan to do stops and landings for wildlife like walruses and arctic foxes along the coastlines of the Svalbard islands.
Day 0 We always recommend to arrive Longyearbyen at least one day and night in advance.
Day 1 Departure from Longyearbyen throughout Isfjorden. Heading north to the drifting ice.
Day 2-11 Looking for wildlife around Sjuøyane and up in the drifting ice. Visiting Storøya, or even Kvitøya far east, if the weather is good. Depending on the ice conditions and weather we will choose the route for this Svalbard photo expedition. It will be varying from year to year and the ice conditions is the most important consideration we do before deciding where to go.
The route illustrated in the map on this page is just a estimate for where we will sail. It probably will be changed depending on the ice conditions. Maybe we have to sail much further to the north to reach the ice.
Day 12 Leaving the ship after breakfast and prepare the travel home.
