Arctic Fox photography tour
Svalbard winter photography
In March you literally feel the Arctic environment on your body. The cold, the wind, the silence and the light. It is truly amazing. This winter expedition will focus on finding wildlife like Arctic Foxes, Svalbard Reindeers and Svalbard Rock Ptarmigans. If we by accident bump into Polar Bears we need to retreat due to new environmental regulations if the bear is close, but you might have the chance to take some pictures.
Very experienced guide, living in Longyerbyen on regular basis, will be your guide. He know Svalbard well and consider it his own back yard.
We especially focus on finding Arctic Foxes and have many opportunities to photograph them in beautiful surroundings. We will be using snowmobiles and car in case of bad weather. By snowmobiles we can easily reach more remote locations where we know its great chances for seeing and photographing arctic foxes. On the way you will see beautiful winter landscapes, ice patterns and ice caves. Vide knows exactly where to go to find the most spectacular situations you can dream of in Svalbard.
Arctic Wildlife Tours has done several winter expeditions like this throughout the last years and our travel leaders and guides has long experience from this kind of tours.

Itinerary
This Svalbard winter photography tour and itinerary will be planned in accordance with prevailing weather and ice conditions. The ice is still solid frozen in winter and we will adapt to these conditions. The route will be by Bellsund and Van Mijen fjorden - east of Longyearbyen.
We always recommend to arrive Longyearbyen at least one day and night in advance.
Day 1 We start in the evening by picking up snowmobiles and clothings. Arctic Wildlife Tours guides will do a briefing in our offices in Longyearbyen. After the briefing we will do a evening drive searching for Arctic foxes. We park the snowmobiles and bring each person to their hotel.
Day 2 Pickup in the morning around 07:00 and we gather by the snowmobile parking. Preparing snowmobiles and packing the last equipment. Then drive 60-17 km distance with several stops searching for wildlife and landscapes for photography, before we arrive at the cabin in the evening. A extra guide and chef will prepare the cabin and dinner when we arrive. Preparing for a 4 day and three nights at the cabin with daytrips in the area. This part of Svalbard has very few visitors and some good areas for wildlife.
Day 3-5 Daytrips from early morning to late evenings to have the best light. Visiting glaciers and areas for wildlife sightings. Its not allowed to drive on the fjord ice due to environmental regulations, but we are allowed to follow the shore lines searching for wildlife. Main focus will be on finding arctic foxes, ptarmigans and Svalbard reindeers, but polar bears are possible to bump into.
Day 5 Drive back to Longyearbyen during the day and search for wildlife along the way. Deliver the snowmobiles and clothings around 18:00 in the evening. Debrief and back to your respective accommodation.
The route is just a estimate for where we can drive. We might need to change some plans according to weather.
