Drift ice cruises in the Arctic Ocean north of Svalbard is possible with our new vessel. The times are changing, and so are Arctic Wildlife Tours. We are excited to announce a groundbreaking product that allows you to venture comfortably deep into the Arctic pack ice. Our tours are designed for small groups of passionate wildlife photographers, providing a unique opportunity to share experiences and capture stunning Arctic wildlife.
A Commitment to Immersive Experiences
For years, our team has photographed polar bears and walrus, fostering a strong desire to spend extended periods within the floating pack ice, often far north of the Svalbard Islands. Previously, the main obstacles were vessel strength, engine capacity, and the ability to navigate thick ice. With our new partnership and the addition of MS Kvitungen, these limitations are a thing of the past.
Introducing MS Kvitungen
MS Kvitungen began its journey as a SEALER, now rated as a 1A super. We are in the process of adapting this vessel for tourism, and a comprehensive refurbishment is planned for 2027. To assess its capabilities, we chartered MS Kvitungen in 2025 and were impressed with its performance.
Norwegian Ingenuity and Arctic Expertise
Built in Norway, MS Kvitungen was specifically constructed to traverse the challenging pack ice along Greenland's east coast. Over the years, it has served various logistical roles in the Arctic. Starting in 2025, MS Kvitungen will operate in cooperation with Arctic Wildlife Tours, focusing primarily on pack ice expeditions.

With engine capacity three times greater than most ships in its category and a ‘DNV ICE 5’ ice class—matching some of the Arctic's most powerful vessels—MS Kvitungen opens new horizons for Arctic Wildlife Tours and our photographers. The international waters of the pack ice are home to the true kingdom of the polar bear, and this is precisely where we aim to bring you.
Specialized Design for Expedition Excellence
MS Kvitungen is expertly crafted for sailing in dense pack ice. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered: both rudder and propeller are reinforced and protected from moving ice, and the hull is constructed as a genuine ice-breaker. However, Arctic expeditions are not only about technical specifications—they are about people. As a Norwegian ship with a Norwegian crew, the captain and officers bring decades of experience operating vessels in pack ice. Together with the seasoned guides from Arctic Wildlife Tours, they will lead you to the most remote corners of the Arctic Ocean, far removed from other ships.

MS Kvitungen is not a typical ultra-luxurious cruise ship. Instead, she is a robust expedition vessel, perfectly suited for wildlife photographers seeking genuine adventure and access to the heart of Arctic action.

Double cabin private bathrooms
For 2027 Kvitungen will have 5 double cabins with private bathrooms. The cabins will be of good standard and includes a small desk and chair. The cabins will have TV screens. The total amount of cabins on board Kvitungen will be 5 double cabins with private bathrooms and 4 smaller double/single cabins with shared bathrooms.
The Mess Room: Dining and Relaxation
Buffet Dining Experience
The mess room is purpose-built for buffet-style dining, providing a relaxed atmosphere where guests can enjoy an array of dishes prepared by our excellent chefs. The emphasis is on high-quality food, allowing guests to savour their meals at their own pace. In addition to its dining function, the mess room may also serve as a comfortable lounge. This versatile space offers guests the opportunity to relax and unwind indoors. With the Arctic nature and wildlife awaiting just outside, we encourage guests not to spend more time indoors than necessary. The mess room is designed to complement, not compete with, the spectacular surroundings. We try to keep a connection to the Arctic environment.
The lounge design are at its first design stage. The plan is to take parts of the bridge as a smaller lounge with a great view through bigger windows. Sitting areas, binocular positions, refreshment station, live map and outdoor seating will be important functions of the bridge lounge. The crew members will have their space on the bridge as well, apart from the lounge area.
Below main deck cabin area
Kvitungen are providing 4 double cabins below main deck as it is to day. The cabins interior is standard and they will have shared WC/Showers. Each double cabin has its own sink. The cabins are situated in the aft and they are the best place to stay during bad weather and swell.
All 4 cabins will be refurbished for the season 2027 with painting, more storage room under berths and a in general more modern design. We are waiting for the new design and it will be published as soon as its ready.
The cabins can be used as double cabins. Our plan is to use them as single cabins as much as possible.
