Autumn Svalbard Adventure
A classic Svalbard voyage
Embark on this Autumn Expedition Svalbard for a traditional journey through the stunning Svalbard archipelago. The voyage explores the region's most impressive fjord systems, offering opportunities to witness some of the most spectacular glaciers. Svalbard is renowned as the true realm of polar bears, walruses, bearded seals, Arctic foxes, and a diverse array of other Arctic wildlife.
Exceptional Opportunities for Wildlife Viewing
Although the fjord ice may be absent during this season, there are still excellent chances to observe wildlife on the floating, calving pieces of ice within the fjords. The expedition includes landings and hikes, where we will search for and photograph Arctic foxes and Svalbard reindeer. Polar bears are often spotted near the glaciers and on land, and occasionally, these majestic animals can be found resting atop the blue ice drifting in the water.
The unique experience of autumn in Svalbard
In late August and early September, the landscape of Svalbard is transformed by the return of colorful light. As the long, unending daylight of summer fades, sunsets and sunrises reappear, painting the terrain with vibrant and ever-changing hues.
Embarking on an expedition to Svalbard during autumn promises an unforgettable adventure. The landscape is illuminated by breathtaking autumn light, creating an atmosphere that is both striking and serene. This remarkable season transforms the scenery, offering a visual spectacle that captivates every visitor.
What to Expect
While many believe that summer is the best time to explore Svalbard, our experiences tell a different story. Autumn has become one of our favourite times to visit, offering unique advantages and a distinct charm that sets it apart from the busier summer months. The combination of stunning light and vibrant wildlife makes autumn an exceptional season for exploration and discovery.

Itinerary
Svalbard is located at approximately 80 degrees north latitude, which means that the scheduling of the expedition is closely tied to current weather and ice conditions. The map provided on this page outlines the estimated route for the journey. For this particular expedition, a more classic Svalbard itinerary is planned, focusing primarily on the region’s fjords, glaciers, and key wildlife hotspots.
Day 0: Arrival in Longyearbyen
Participants are advised to arrive in Longyearbyen at least one day and night before the expedition begins. This recommendation ensures sufficient time for acclimatization and preparation before departure.
Day 1: Departure and Heading North
The adventure starts with departure from Longyearbyen, sailing through Isfjorden. The group will then proceed north towards the drifting ice, marking the beginning of the Arctic journey.
Days 2–9: Exploring the West Coast
The main portion of the expedition involves searching for wildlife along the west coast of Spitsbergen. The intended route includes reaching the Hinlopen Strait, with a planned visit to Lågøya along the way. Wildlife sightings and prevailing weather conditions will guide the exact path taken during this Svalbard photo expedition. The route depicted on the accompanying map serves only as an estimate of the intended sailing path. Changes to the route are likely, as weather situations and possibilities of seeing wildlife will determine the route we choose.
Day 9: Disembarkation and Departure
On the final day, participants will leave the ship after breakfast and begin preparations for their journey home.
