SVALBARD PHOTO EXPEDITION AUGUST 2018

A new photo and wildlife expedition into the ice north of Svalbard.

Once again Arctic Wildlife Tours visits the naked shores of Svalbard and  search in the icy waters for photographing wildlife. We use the old fashion ship MS Malmö for this photo expedition into the Svalbard wilderness. We will have a main focus on searching in the drift ice for wildlife as Polar Bears, seals and birdlife. Around the Islands of Spitsbergen and Nordaustlandet we also will spend time in the Svalbard fjords looking for Arctic wildlife.

Travel Route

Itinerary

Svalbard is situated at about 80 degrees north, so we schedule the expedition in accordance with prevailing weather and ice conditions. The map on this page shows the estimated route for this expedition. We plan to sail all the way up to the drifting ice edge, wherever nit will be at that time, and also visit the northern parts of Nordaustlandet.

Day 0 We always recommend to arrive Longyearbyen at least one day in advance.

Day 1 Departure from Longyearbyen through Isfjorden. Heading north to the drifting ice.

Day 2-9 Looking for wildlife around Sjuøyane and up in the drifting ice. Visiting Storøya if weather is good. If time and good possibilities for finding wildlife we sail down Hinlopen on our way back.

Day 9-10 Sailing back to Isfjorden and Longyearbyen and will be in the harbour in the evening day 10. On the way we will visit some locations for wildlife.

Day 11 Leaving the ship after breakfast and prepare the travel home.

We will probably have time to spend with some Arctic Foxes during this expedition. August is the perfect time to experience these funny creatures.
