SVALBARD OCTOBER LIGHT EXPEDITION IN 2019

Experience the Svalbard October light conditions by joining our Svalbard photography expedition in October 2019. Our wildlife expeditions are the ultimate in polar exploration at any time of year. October is a new time of the year we do expeditions, mainly to explore the fantastic light conditions we will have bewteen the Svalbard autumn light and the Arctic winter darkeness.

High Arctic nature is constantly changing. On Svalbard, every day is different, and every year is different. The Norwegian-owned company Arctic Wildlife Tours leads this expedition to Svalbard, a remote area they know and love. That’s important, because this is a land where your guides must know how to handle the constantly-changing weather conditions.

This exclusive small boat charter trip navigates through the Svalbard wilderness in the close areas of Isfjorden. Its short days and long nights already but the light thats there is amazing. This photography expedition will be focused on professional photography. Most of our focus will be on the landscapes and the light, but wildlife is always a possibility for to find. If you are a keen amateur or a professional, then this journey still suits you.

Our Norwegian and Swedish guides that will lead the trip all speak excellent English and have long experience hiking and exploring the environment of Svalbard. We will do landings from a small boat to hike and do landscape photography.

Itinerary

Accommodation on this trip will be in a hotel in the Russian city of Pyramiden. We will use closed RIB’s to move around the fjords of the Isfjorden system. Late autumn can give us rough yet fantastic weather, so daily trips will be planned according to the local conditions.

Day 0 We always recommend arriving in Longyearbyen, the biggest settlement on Svalbard, at least 24 hours in advance.

Day 1 Upon departure from Longyearbyen via Isfjorden, we immediately start searching for landscapes and wildlife. In the evening we will stay at the hotel in Pyramiden.

Day 2-5 We spend the days searching for landscapes to photograph. We will get close to several glaciers in the fjords and at the same time keep an eye out for polar bears. These areas where the glaciers are calving is prime hunting territory for these magnificent creatures.

Day 6 We check out of the hotel in the morning and we spend the whole day in the fjords photographing on our journey back to Longyearbyen. We arrive in the harbour during the evening.
